Lord of Chaos by Robert Jordan

Series: The Wheel of Time / Book: 6

All right avid followers, I’ve finally finished the 6th book in the Wheel of Time series. Where are our beloved characters now? Well, Rand is hopping all over the place by using Traveling, Elayne and Nynaeve are in Salidar teaching the Aes Sedai all the new powers they’ve learned, Mat is on multiple campaigns for Rand, Egwene is taking the lead of the Salidar Aes Sedai, and Perrin is jumping back in the mix by meeting back up with Rand in Cairhien.

There were good things and bad things to this book…I’ll start with the items I didn’t much care for. At this point in the series, Rand has gained vast amount of power and land West of the Aiel Waste. Because his crusade has to do with holding power in these divided areas, there are a ton of characters being added to the book. This ranges from soldiers that are following him, to all the nobles who are for or against him. With all these additional names being thrown around I often get confused and have to stop to think things through. I’m also straight up tired of the attitudes and close to the vest style the Aes Sedai have. They think they are wiser and more capable of directing than anyone they meet. This gets so old when you see that these young Aes Sedai are quickly surpassing them in talent and knowledge.

Now, on to the things I enjoyed in the 6th novel. This one was still not as action packed as the first couple books, but the storyline definitely kept my attention much better than the previous novel. I will also say that the last quarter of this one was captivating and throws a lot of questions into the mix as to how these events will change the course of the story. I also was really disappointed that Perrin wasn’t in the 5th book at all; so I’m excited to have him back. I can’t put my finger on why I like him so much more than a lot of the other characters, but I’m guessing it has a lot to do with him being able to talk to wolves.

All in all, I think if you’ve made it this far into the series, there is no reason stopping now. On to book 7…hopefully I start getting more Trolloc battles back.
